About Des Plaines, IL
Des Plaines sits in Cook County, Illinois and is a suburb of Chicago. The city has a modest population of just under 60,000 people and plenty of suburban charm. Located north of O’Hare International Airport, Des Plaines sits on the Des Plaines River, whence it gets its name. Des Plaines was originally developed as a village, but in 1925, the residents voted for it to be converted into a city. After World War II, the city experienced rapid growth, which was then followed by the opening of the Chicago-O’Hare International Airport.
Des Plaines was the last place to be awarded a casino license by the state’s gaming board. After zoning approvals, the casino opened in July of 2011 and is known as Rivers Casino.
